New release on Nah Ramp Music EXCITING UP AND COMING YOUNG JAMAICAN ARTIST 618 KB

It is always very exciting to hear the first release by a new up and coming artist. J. Written has been making songs for a very long time and the time has now come for him to present this first selection of songs to the world. Interestingly enough the title for this album became Kaleidoscope. And in looking up Kaleidoscope in various dictionaries it is much more than just the toy most people associate with this word. It also “suggests that one should approach the most difficult situations in life by changing one's attitude to the circumstances because life is amazing” and “life is a kaleidoscope. Twist it and with every twist there is a new pattern and new color that is highlighted. Life is like that. What was before might have changed. In fact, the pattern of our life is constantly changing”.

J. Written comes from the area of Payne Land in Kingston Jamaica. A serious ghetto area where life is tough. Tenor Saw also came from here. And from there his family would move around with J. Written eventually mostly living in Trenchtown, an area which has given birth to many of the great artists of Jamaica and reggae. A petri dish where life is not easy but where character is built. What J. Written has seen and experienced is the matter which makes up his songs.

He looks at things and then articulates how he perceives them. And his music is a bridge that links the roots of reggae to the current sound which is now happening. A bridge that both encapsulates what has come before and what is here in the present and how the future may evolve.

He came to the attention of RAS Records founder Doctor Dread through Blue Mountain owner Lloyd Evans. Doctor Dread instantly recognized the talent this youth possessed. And working together with Kareem “Remus” Burrell from XTM Nation they set about making an album that would give the listener a clear picture of what J. Written is all about.

Recording at both Music Works and Tuff Gong studios in Jamaica the rhythms were carefully crafted so J. Written could express himself with the lyrics he had for all these tracks. Much thought went into what he had to say and how it would fit the music. His style is unique as he incorporates both rapping and singing into his presentation.

We know you will be pleased with this, his first LP release. A diversity of songs that presents a new and thoughtful artist as he emerges onto the reggae scene. This is just the beginning.
